In the fashion industry, you are able to see how certain styles in clothing revert back to it's humble beginning-in Vintage Clothing.
In order to qualify for the title of fashionista, you need to have knowledge and understanding of the original designers of haute couture.

Knowledge such as this cannot be discovered by viewing celebrities on MTV. This type of knowledge derives from experience. Before the Baby Phat Collections, the Apple Bottom Jeans, the Rocawear, and Sean Jean Collection.

There was the true originators of fashion and Haute Couture-Emilio Pucci, Marchese di Barsento an Italian Fashion Designer, Rocco Barocco, Nazareno Fonticoli, Gaetano Savini to name a few.

The appeal of finding original, non mass produced or reproduced clothing by a designers limited edition clothing line, is the foundation for every Vintage Seller/Collector or Buyer. You have to be able to recognize and maintain enough knowledge to determine the designer by the style or type of fabric used. With the demand for vintage clothing skyrocketing over the years...it's essential to find honest, experienced and knowledgable experts in vintage clothing. The very first issue of the VSCA Newsletter features Vintage Clothing expert Nica from "Glass Candy Vintage." Nica specializes in Vintage Clothing and is a true expert and Vintage Fashionista who did not mind answering my questions and providing the information on her experience and knowledge with Vintage Clothing.

When asked how she began her venture into the Vintage Community, she provided wonderful account on how her love affair with "Vintage Clothing" began. Read her story on how it all began-

"Vintage through and through!!!! As a young girl my mom new exactly how to make my day.... bring me a vintage gaudy intricate ballerina costume for me to play dress-up in and it would make my day. Throughout my childhood I made sure to always have an assorted collection of vintage costumes at home, playing dress-up regularly with the kids in the neighborhood.
At the same time I was fascinated by my moms own private collection, consisting of odd ball purses and heavily beaded tops and dresses dating back to the 30s, with her prized possession being a mint and purple pucci dress."

"By the age of 15, I began collecting myself, going to flea markets, second hand stores, and rummaging through any older persons closet I could. My best find......an Emilio Pucci Dress, found in my very own favorite aunt's closet. I made the mistake of selling it on Ebay close to 9 years ago (AND GOD DO I REGRET IT....it was one the most beautiful and unique pieces I've seen by Pucci to this day)."

I started buying odd vintage items here and there to resell at the age of 18, and it hasn't stopped since. Throughout college I was dealing vintage, so when I discovered Ebay through a search engine (hard to believe I know.), most auctions did not include photos, the clothing category usually consisted of no more than 100 items and it was completely free) with my first listing being a pair of big E Levis that I bought at a yard sale, I was ecstatic. People from all over the US could view my Auctions.

Glass Candy was opened five years ago in Germany. After Nica recently moved back to the US to pursue a Masters in Photography she reopened Glass Candy's doors in the US, in the beginning of 2008.
